Most of this information was compiled from the excellent book by the late Lee Calhoun, Jr. called "Old Southern Apples" (Revised and expanded edition). I highly recommend purchasing this book or at least checking it out from your library, because these dry tables leave out all the wonderful history and back-stories of these apples. He also has chapters on extinct apples, which give apple hunters some useful information they might use to rescue and revive some old valuable cultivars, apple cultivation practices and more detail on each apple's characteristics and synonyms. He also lists sources for trees, but such lists tend to become outdated quickly, which is why I don't include them here.
His book was published by Chelsea Green Publishing Company in 2010. ISBN 978-1-60358-294-0
Some additional information was gleaned from Tom Burford's excellent book: Burford, Tom. 2013. Apples of North America. ISBN 978-1-60469-249-5.Fruit Characteristics
